17:15 Introductory overview session (Tina Bilban)
Presentation of selected associations, institutions, and projects in Slovenia dedicated to promoting reading culture and quality children’s literature (see the Slovenia Loved Reading publication). Includes an opportunity to engage in discussions with representatives of these organizations.

18:00 Showcase 1: Center for Illustration and the exhibition of illustration at the book fair in Bologna (Maša P. Žmitek)
The Center for Illustration’s aim is to facilitate the development and promotion of Slovene illustration nationally and internationally. Recently, Slovenia has been the guest of honor at the book fairs in Frankfurt (2023) and Bologna (2024), which included exhibitions of Slovene illustration, produced and curated by the Center for Illustration. The Bologna exhibition will shortly be on display also in Trieste. In addition, 12 illustrators, whose work was highlighted in both exhibitions, will be
present at the session: Maja Kastelic, Polona Lovšin, Andreja Peklar, Lila Prap, Alenka Sottler, Damijan Stepančič, Hana Stupica, Igor Šinkovec, Peter Škerl, Ana Zavadlav, Huiqin Wang, Maša P. Žmitek.

18:30 Showcase 2: Authors Peter Svetina and Anja Štefan (host: Andrej Hočevar)
Peter Svetina and Anja Štefan are renowned Slovenian authors, current Slovenian nominees for the Hans Christian Andersen Award (IBBY) and the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. Peter Svetina is currently Professor of Slavic Literature at the University of Klagenfurt in Austria. His professional interests are poetry and youth literature. He writes for children, young people, and poetry for adults. He has published several translations of Czech, Croatian, Serbian and German literature.
Anja Štefan is a poet, writer and storyteller whose poems and fairy tales address both children and adults. In 2022 she was the first Slovene children’s book author to receive the Prešeren Fund Award, Slovenia’s main award in the arts. She is the founder of the Slovene Storytelling Festival, which she ran for 20 years.

19:00 Showcase 3: Ljubljana, UNESCO City of Literature (Tina Popovič)
Ljubljana, like Nanjing in China, is a UNESCO City of Literature, part of a network that currently includes 53 member cities. The City of Literature office, led by Tina Popovič, who also manages the Vodnik Homestead, focuses on enhancing the visibility and promotion of books and reading in the city. It designs literary programs, fosters networking and international mobility, and promotes knowledge transfer within the publishing sector. citiesoflit.com / mestoliterature.si

Venue: garden of the Slovene Writers’ Association villa (a short walk away), Majda Koren (Slovene Writers’ Association) and Mateja Seliškar Kenda (Slovenian Association of Literary Translators) will briefly introduce their respective institutions, followed by networking and socializing with Slovene writers and translators, including translators from Chinese.
